From 28 August to 8 September 2023, an interdisciplinary workshop with 27 international participants (artists, art historians, conservators and students of applied arts) on the ceramic production and conservation of the destroyed porcelain collection of Loosdorf Castle took place as a start of the project.
The participants were first introduced to the handling of the objects, followed by a guided tour of the Institute for Conservation, during which basic methods of ceramic restoration were demonstrated and discussed.
The different backgrounds of the workshop participants led to a lively exchange on the multifaceted topic of ceramics. Questions about materiality and manufacturing processes were discussed and techniques such as modelling, turning and casting clay were presented.
The Shard Room and its eventful history were the inspiration for an intensive discussion and the start of artistic production.
